Kerala High Court seeks state stand over CBI probe on mining
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday sought the stand of the state and CBI on a plea seeking probe into the issuance of Kerala land Amendment Act and Rules Bill 2013 by the state government. The petition filed by Benny K.T. of Thrissur argued that there is indiscriminate exploitation of mines and minerals in the land assigned for other purposes under the Kerala land Amendment Act and that too without having licence and disregarding the consequent environmental and ecological disaster it can cause.
Petitioner argued that even though he brought to notice the functioning of quarry/crusher units in the governemnt assigned land under the Kerala Land Assignment Act and Rules, no prompt and effective action has been taken by the concerned officials. The same is happening even after the High Court set aside the Government Order.
The Supreme Court had recently criticised the state in the quarry issue. On the other hand they are permitting quarry/crusher units to function on government assigned land. Moreover on inquiry it was revealed that the quarry/crusher units are functioning in government assigned land not only in Thrissur district, but also in all the district of the state.
