Former Puducherry deputy speaker A V Sreedharan no more

Sreedharan entered active politics through INTUC as a trade union leader in Mahe Spinning Mills.

Mahe: Former deputy speaker of Puducherry Legislative Assembly and veteran Congress leader from Mahe A.V. Sreedharan passed away due to age-related ailments at his residence in Mahe on Friday morning. Sreedharan, who is survived with his wife I.M Seetha and children Shejin and Subin, represented erstwhile Palloor constituency in Mahe region for 25 years in continuous six terms from 1985 till its integration to Mahe constituency. He held the post of Deputy Speaker between 2006 and 2010.

Sreedharan entered active politics through INTUC as a trade union leader in Mahe Spinning Mills. He held the founder president post of many trade unions. He was noted for his success in the agitation which forced the union government to take over Mahe Spinning Mills under the National Textile Corporation. He was also a theatre artiste who acted in over 50 dramas.
