District Congress Committee meet to fix UDF factional feud fails
Kochi: The negotiation meeting convened by the District Congress Committee president V.J Poulose on Friday to resolve the intensified factional feud within the UDF in the Corporation council and to address complaints against the ‘autocratic’ approach of Mayor Soumini Jain failed to reach a consensus. Corporation Works Committee chairman P.M Haris told DC that the suggestions put forward by the DCC chief were not acceptable to them. “Though the Congress leadership has come up with a series of suggestions, we cannot agree with them. The DCC president has promised to convene another meeting,” he said.
Though the works committee chairman asked for the freedom to handle files related to the committee and to abolish the condition that all files should be vetted by the Mayor, it was not accepted. Earlier, he complained against unnecessary interference by the mayor in all matters related to his committee. Indian Union Muslim League leaders also asked for an official clarification from the DCC president and the Mayor denying “baseless reports” against the party that appeared in a section of the media. V.K Ebrahim Kunju, M. K Nazar and T.K Ashraf attended the meeting along with Congress leaders including Mayor Soumini Jain, deputy Mayor T.J Vinod, Prof. K.V Thomas, K. Babu, Dominic Presentation and N. Venugopal.
