Avalapandy to go green today
KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the paddy cultivation programme today, initiated at Avalapandy near Perambra. The mission is being implemented with the aim of converting the land into a major rice production source in Malabar. It is nearly after three decades that the unused paddy field at Avalapandy has been turned into cultivable land. Excise Minister TP Ramakrishnan and Agriculture Minister VS Sunil Kumar will also be present at the function.
“With the message of inspiring youngsters to farming, the campaign will urge the people to adopt the good way of life by initiating farm activities,” said M Kunjahammed Master, the convener of Perambra constituency development mission. It should be noted that the land in Cheruvannur panchayath was one of the best sources of rice in the Malabar region and a majority of rice needs in the region was satisfied by the farmers in the region. But over the years, the cultivation here stopped and the land was left unused. “We have now given new life to the region with this campaign,” he added.
