Hyderabad: Crackdown on drunk drivers

The courts awarded imprisonment to 282 respondents and permanently cancelled/suspended the driving licenses of five persons.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police have booked 1,744 drivers for driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol in the month of October. The local courts awarded imprisonment to 282 and imposed fines amounting to 1.71 crores on rest of the traffic violators. According to Addl. Commissioner of Police, (Law & Order), D. S. Chauhan, presently in charge of the Hyderabad traffic police, charge sheets were filed against the traffic violators and they were produced in local courts.

The courts awarded imprisonment to 282 respondents and permanently cancelled/suspended the driving licenses of five persons. All the violators sentenced to imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda Jail.

He further added the respondents who were convicted in drunken driving cases may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passports and visa clearances. Violators were also counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet.
