Volleyball fed official moves Madras High Court on misappropriation of funds
Chennai: An office-bearer of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) has approached Madras High Court to direct CBI to register his complaint alleging misappropriation of funds and manipulation of records by secretary ceneral Ramavtar Jakhar in connivance with the Chief Executive Officer K. Murugan. Justice G.Jaichandran, before whom the petition filed by K. Nandakumar, associate secretary of VFI came up for hearing, adjourned it to November 7.
Petitioner’s counsel John Sathyan submitted that when the accounts were scrutinized, it came to light that the bank accounts were being operated at IOB, Pursawalkam, Chennai. Of the four accounts, only the VFI account was the legitimate account of the Federation. The other three were sham accounts operated by them to re-route funds illegally for their personal enrichment by falsifying and manipulating records maintained by the Federation, petitioner alleged.
Nandakumar said each player was given a daily allowance of USD 100 for their sustenance when they represent the country in international tournaments. This money was routed through the respective National Sports Federation based on supporting evidences adduced by the respective federation to the Union sports ministry.
Internal investigation and scrutiny revealed that the duo in furtherance of a conspiracy gave only $25 as against $100 sanctioned a daily allowance for each player representing the country in international tournaments, transferred the embezzled amount into one of those sham accounts and siphoned the money meant for players and officials and enriched themselves by falsifying and manipulating the federation accounts. The above act was well substantiated by an e-mail dated January 13, 2014 sent by Murugan to one K. Sai Ganesh. However, CBI has not registered a case based on his complaint dated June 25, 2016 though one year and three months have lapsed, he added.
