Sukanya's golden deed for school
KOZHIKODE: When education minister C. Raveendranath was delivering his inaugural speech at the launch of a new building at Mappila ALP School, Malappattam, a 15-year-old girl beautifully dressed girl walked up to the stage and removed her gold chain. She handed it over to the minister, making hundreds of people gathered at the venue spellbound.
Meet Sukanya K., a student of Malappattam Government Higher Secondary School who did this great thing to lend her wholehearted support to the project of raising her school to international standards as part of the government’s mission to protect public education. Inspired by her, many came forward and extended financial support to Taliparamba MLA James Mathew and the education minister in the mission.
“Giving away my only gold chain was not a planned one. But when I heard our minister talking about the importance moving with the pace of technologies and the right of the students to get acquainted with those advancements, no matter where they study, I felt like to be part of it," she said. "At the same time, it is for my school and its development, so I gave the chain, and I don’t feel like I did a great deed or a big charity."
"I have also promised to do more fundraising programmes for the mission to protect public education," she added. This deed of Sukanya has also made her a social media star in no time with hundreds of people from several parts of the globe appreciating her.
