Fuel drenched soil catches fire in Hyderabad

Madhapur station fire officer RA Qureshi said the land where the fire occurred had a petrol bunk 10 years back.

Hyderabad: The public panicked at Old Hafeezpet in the IT corridor on Wednesday as the cellar of an under-construction building caught fire. The building is located near a petrol bunk.

Madhapur station fire officer R.A. Qureshi said the land where the fire occurred had a petrol bunk 10 years back. The owner of the petrol bunk shifted it to another plot and sold the old petrol bunk land. He said the land had absorbed fuel from underground petrol and diesel tanks.

“Recently, the new owner began construction of a cellar+G+4 building. As the soil contained fuel it caught fire on Wednesday from a cracker,” he said.

The incident took place at around 11 am. As the fire could not be controlled with water even after two hours fire fighters used foam and controlled it by 2 pm.

Miyapur police registered a case and is investigating the matter. Fire officials said that there was no loss of property.
