Vijayawada: Devotees, especially the elderly and infirm, faced severe problems on Wednesday when they reached the Durga temple for darshan, when all the six elevators installed failed to work.
The elevators carry devotees from the foothill to the temple complex and regulars to the temple say that they are extensively used by police and other officials though they are meant for the disabled, elderly, and women.
“The lifts are used indiscriminately by police and other officials, though they are meant for the elderly devotees. On Wednesday, when the rush of devotees increased, the elevators failed one after the other,” a devotee said on condition of anonymity.
Head priest L. Prasada Sarma said that the Goddess appeared in Annapurna Devi attire on Wednesday. He said that Annapurna Devi provides food and maintains the lifecycle of the entire universe.
