KOZHIKODE: The Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society's (ULCCS) has launched a new initiative, 'UL education,' to facilitate the integrated development of schools in the state. The Madappally Boys and girls high school has been identified to conduct the pilot project. The project will make interventions in communication, English proficiency, logical and analytical skills, teachers' training, library, environmental issues, water conservation, palliative care, athletics, sports, general knowledge and various other genres in government and aided schools in the state.
Mr Rameshan Paleri, chairman, ULCCS, said, "the project will conduct training programme for the teachers under TOT mode. ULCCS will scale up this project across the state after completion of the pilot project. This will be initially extended to the whole of Kozhikode district and then to the state. Dr. T.P. Sethumadhavan, director, 'UL education' said, "students of primary, upper primary, high school, higher secondary and vocational schools will benefit through the project. ULCCS will sign an MoU with British Council, Cambridge English and British Deputy High Commission for this".
Infrastructure development projects will be taken up with the assistance from district, block and grama panchayats in the respective schools, he added. As per the plan, British Council and Cambridge English will be involved in training teachers in English communication and improving the English proficiency of students. Parents will be given orientation for decision-making, educational awareness and career guidance programmes. The main aim is to promote skill development, student entrepreneurship and start-ups.
