Kozhikode: Drug-pedlars have a field day
KOZHIKODE: The police is yet to make a breakthrough in the investigation into the powerful drug trafficking network that regularly supplies narcotic and psychotropic substances to youngsters in the city. Medical College circle inspector Moosa Vallikkadan, who heads the investigation, conducts hectic raids, but he could catch only some ganja traders at grassroots.
There are indications that the police had identified some key suspects, mostly big players, who had moved out of the state. The threat of the network spreading among the youth in the city came to light after a 22-year-old college student died of suspected drug overdose in a lodge last week. City police commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar had told DC the police is on a micro-level intervention to destroy the drug peddler network.
The police would publicise the mobile phone numbers of assistant commissioner (narcotics) and deputy commissioner for the public to pass information, he added. Police sources said the raids and surveillance would continue, though the operatives would lie low for the time being. The shadow police and the Special Branch of the police are roaming around the known drug joints in the city.
