UDF not to give up, says Ramesh Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday said he hoped Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to consider the statement of Administrative Reforms Committee chairman V. S. Achuthanandan that the government’s stand on the indefinite fast of UDF MLAs over the self-financing issue was wrong. But five hours later, Achuthanandan retracted his earlier statement.
Chennithala was reacting to a reporter's question He said the LDF government should compromise and hold talks. “UDF will go forward with the strike. These kinds of protests were staged earlier in the Assembly, but that did not last for more than three days. The strike of the MLAs has now reached the fifth day. The government is taking a negative approach towards it,” said Mr Chennithala.
He alleged that the government was behaving with a vengeance. KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran had also welcomed the statement of Mr Achuthanandan. He said the veteran leader’s response was quite natural. “Unfortunately the government is not treating the strike in a democratic manner,” he said.
