Speculation about Jaya should be put to rest: Pon Radhakrishnan

Unfair to convert CM's illness into political issue'.

Chennai: Speculation about the health of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa should be put to rest after Tamil Nadu Governor C.H. Vidyasagar Rao visited the Apollo Hospitals and said she was recovering well, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters in Kanyakumari, Mr Radhakrishnan said it was not fair on the part of any leader to convert Chief Minister’s illness into a political issue.

“Bulletins are being issued from hospital and also from the government regularly. Even yesterday, Acting Governor (CH Vidyasagar Rao) had visited Jayalalithaa and government released a bulletin. Still what do they expect?” he said to a query on the demand to release a photo of Jayalalithaa.

The ruling AIADMK dismissed demands to release photographs of Ms Jayalalithaa to quell rumours about her health, saying the hospital was regularly releasing bulletins about her condition.

“The hospital has been sharing bulletins about her health regularly. Even after sharing the bulletins, what do they expect? Every day ministers are
coming and meeting her (Jayalalithaa) since local body elections are around the corner,” AIADMK spokesperson C.R. Saraswathi told reporters.”

On DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s suggestion to release a photograph of Jayalalithaa to quell rumours about her health, she said, “Even if we do so, he will say it has been photo shopped. He is making such comments just to criticise us.”

The AIADMK spokesperson also appealed to people not to believe rumours that are being spread about Ms Jayalalithaa’s health.
