Nanma's peril: Day after, this Amma is agony personified
KOZHIKODE: A day after the authorities shifted 18 inmates to the Children’s Home, Sumathi Amma of Nanma Charitable Trust is agony personified. She is worried about their ongoing examinations and when some of them came to meet her during the day time, she gave them sweets to be distributed among the others in Children’s home. The officials of the District Child Right’s Protection unit shifted 18 inmates residing with Sumathi Amma, a 65-year-old lady at Parambil Bazar to Children’s home at Vellimadukunnu on Saturday, citing lack of proper registration of her Nanma Charitable Trust.
“My mistake is that I don’t have proper registration. I could not comply with their direction to have own building or land. But I am taking care of the children just like a mother. The authorities could have at least waited till their exams were over. Now my children have to travel from Vellimadukkunnu to Parambil Bazar to write exams,” she said. She added that she knew the people who were behind this issue, but had no energy to fight them.
Meanwhile, District Collector N Prasanth said that he would try to find an amicable solution for this emotional issue. “An order of the Child Protection Commission, which is a statutory body, has quasi judicial value. Without violating the order, we can explore means to ensure that Sumathi Amma and her kids do not get separated,” he added. Kozhikode MP M.K Raghavan on Saturday visited Sumathi Amma and extended support to solve the issue. “Her issue is a genuine one and the MP will take up with the Minister and the department concerned,” the MP’s office said.
