SC/ST case registered after two Dalit youth beaten over goat

ADILABAD: The Mandamarri police have registered a case against goat farm owner Ramulu and his family members under SCs and STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on charges of beating two Dalit youth Chilumula Kiran and his friend Teja for allegedly stealing a goat in Yapal area of Mandamarri in Mancherial district.

The incident took place on Friday. Police said as part of their investigation, they have taken the accused into custody. They are searching for Kiran, who is reportedly missing.

Kiran had been working as a labourer with Shravan, a mason. Shravan had got both Kiran and Teja released from Ramulu, promising he would pay the money for the missing goat.

A video which showed Ramulu and his family members torturing the two Dalit youth by hanging them upside down has gone viral on social media. A fire with smoke had been built under them. Relatives of Kiran and Teja can be seen pleading with the goat owner to release them.

According to information, a person Ramulu is rearing goats in a shed near the railway track. The controversy started when a goat went missing from the shed eight days ago. The issue came to light when Kiran’s relative N. Saritha lodged a complaint with the local police stating that Kiran is missing.

Mandamarri police took up investigation, which led to unravelling of the incident.
