Visakhapatnam: A low pressure is likely to form over west-central Bay of Bengal on Monday which will bring more rains to north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema region. Meanwhile, thunderstorms lashed Visakhapatnam city and other parts of north coastal Andhra on Saturday evening.
Many low-lying areas were inundated and there were traffic jams in many places where storm water overflowed on the roads. The traffic was held up at Hanumanthawaka junction due to waterlogging and it resulted in another jam between RTC Complex and Maddilapalem junction.
The evening storm affected normal life causing inconvenience to commuters and those returning from offices and educational institutions. All the street hawkers were off the roads.
An IMD report on Saturday said the trough from Interior Karnataka to Comorin area now runs from Vidarbha to South interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh now lay over North Interior Karnataka at 1.5 km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lay over north interior Tamil Nadu between 4.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level. The trough from the centre of a cyclonic circulation over the Northeast Bay of Bengal and neighborhood to south Coastal Andhra Pradesh at 3.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Under the influence of the system heavy rain is likely over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema for the next two days. The report said moderate rains would continue till September 14.
During the last 24 hours, heavy rains lashed the Agency areas which include Paderu, Araku Valley, Pedabayalu, Munchingput, Hulumpeta and G Madugula mandals. Araku Valley received rain for over two hours and storm water entered into some homes.
