GMC to impose spot fines through app for littering city

GMC commissioner Ch Keerthi said that secretariat staff will impose fines instantly for throwing garbage in the side drains and on the roads

VIJAYAWADA: In a first of its kind, the Guntur Municipal Corporation launched spot fines for littering roads and streets through mobile application. GMC commissioner Ch Keerthi said that secretariat staff will impose fines instantly for throwing waste and garbage in the side drains and on the roads. She released a poster at the GMC Office in Guntur on Saturday regarding the Swachh Guntur mobile app.

Commissioner Keerthi said that from now on, there will be a spot fine for those who throw waste in the side drains and on the roads and a special app has been created for each secretariat secretary to levy fines. She said that the participation of the people is important in keeping Guntur a clean city, but some people litter the roads and drains and are causing the environment to be unsanitary. She further said that the public health workers of the city are already collecting garbage from door to door and the secretaries of the secretariat have gone to every house creating awareness about doorstep collection of garbage and waste. She said that secretariat staff has informed the public not to throw it on the roads or canals.

Commissioner directed every secretariat secretary to download the app, through which the secretaries will be able to impose fines directly on the spot from those who create air pollution, waste in empty spaces, construction waste on roads, use of prohibited plastic, unauthorized posters and banners. She appealed to the people to cooperate with GMC towards making the city clean and green.
