Waste shredder unit installed at Ernakulam market

KOCHI: The Kochi city corporation has installed a waste shredder unit at Ernakulam market which will facilitate easier garbage collection and transportation. “Garbage will be shredded and can be transported easily using the facility,” said Mayor Soumini Jain. “The shredding unit will help to keep the cost and number of vehicles used for garbage transport down. The unit can shred bio-waste, plastic waste and even metal parts.” The civic body plans to erect the shredder facility in other parts of the city after assessing its performance. The plastic shredding unit at Brahmapuram waste treatment plant, however remains defunct.
