VKC Mammed Koya's panel remains still-born
KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s Consultative Committee formed during the tenure of V.K.C. Mammed Koya as mayor is still in a dormant state after its first meeting held in April. The City Consultative Committee was the brain child of V.K.C. Mammed Koya to discuss, formulate and find solutions for the overall development of the city. The Committee, which includes people’s representatives, officials, political party leaders, experts from various fields and members from different walks of life is yet to meet to form sub-committees. There was a decision in the first meeting to form sub-committees on various fields to better address the issues.
Speaking to DC, present mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that he is unaware about the present status of the Consultative Committee. “There was some meeting recently which I couldn’t attend due to another programme at Thiruvananthapuram. I don’t know any details on how the meet went,” said the Mayor. However deputy mayor Meera Darshak said that the consultative committee was not a topic of discussion in the meeting held.
“We are yet to think about the meeting of consultative committee and the various sub-committee formations,” she added. Some of the major projects introduced by V.K.C. Mammed Koya when he assumed the office of mayor are yet to materialise after a change at helm due to his election to Legislative Assembly from Beypore. One of the major projects - the punching system for corporation staff - is still running on experimental basis, whereas implementation of e-governance with the help of free software for paperless office is still on papers.
