Chennai: The Madras high court has directed industrialist A.C. Muthiah not to run MAC Spin Foundation in a play ground at Crescent Park, First Street, Gandhi Nagar at Adyar here.
When a petition by V. Palaniappan came up for hearing, Justice N. Kirubakaran passed the interim order. Palaniappan, an executive member of Gandhi Nagar Educational Society, sought a direction to government to inspect the playground measuring five acres at Crescent Park, First Street, Gandhi Nagar in Adyar. He said this was established for students studying in 11 schools in Mandaveli and Adyar.
While so, MAC Spin Foundation, represented by its director Muthiah, cousin of MAM Ramaswamy, inaugurated the foundation in a portion of the land recently.
The petitioner sought a directive to the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation to remove the structure put up by the foundation in the playground. He also sought to restrain the foundation from interfering with the peaceful possession and enjoyment of the playground by students of 11 nearby schools, including seven government aided schools, for decades.
When the matter came up for hearing, corporation counsel submitted that it had issued a stop work notice on August 22 to the Gandhi Nagar Education Society calling upon it not to put up any construction on the site in question. The corporation officer also assured a ‘lock and seal’ notice will be issued to the foundation.
