TTD to fix LEDs to cut power bill

Tirupati: TTD plans to bring down the power bill it has been paying every month while also trying to make the temple city more beautiful with the fixing of LED lightings.

TTD executive officer Anil Kumar Singhal has ordered the engineering department to change the lightings to LEDs within and outside the temple. As per the orders, the TTD engineering department started the fixing LED lights in streets and areas of Tirumala.

The fixing of LED lights in Tirumala began a few days back and almost 80 per cent of the lights have been fixed. The remaining 20 per cent will be done within two months.

The engineering department has spent nearly '4.41 crore for the work while another '9 lakh is estimated to bring about the remaining change.

According to the officials of TTD, the power consumption will be reduced drastically.

The TTD pays around '2.25 crore as power bill every month which would be come down by 40 per cent with the fixing of LEDs.

Speaking to this newspaper, a TTD engineering department official said, “The EO is very much interested in LED lightings because of the many advantages with them. He ordered us to fix the LED lights within the temple that would give the place a more spiritual ambience. We are seeking their opinions so that companies could check and present different ideas. However, the fixing of LEDs inside the temple will take nearly five months.”
