Saturdays full day for Bengaluru schools this month
Bengaluru: After an unexpected bonanza of four holidays last week, school children will now have to spend extra hours at the school on all the Saturdays of this month.
All city schools have decided to convert all the four Saturdays of this month into full day and extending the school hours this week by one hour from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm to compensate for the lost classes.
School managements are of the opinion that extra classes on Saturdays will help them cover the portions and ensure that they can complete the syllabus and classroom activities as per the time table.
According to the Department of Public Instruction block level officials of the city, they have received information from various schools over the change in the school time table for the month of August because of last week's bandh and bus strike.
An officer from Bengaluru South academic district told this newspaper that schools which were forced to postpone their first class test due to the bandh have now sought permission to hold full day classes on all the Saturdays of this month and an extra working hours on all working days of this week.
“There is no need for any permission to extend the class hours or hold full day classes on Saturdays for a temporary period,” he said. Confirming the developments, Karnataka Associated Managements of English Medium Schools (KAMS) General Secretary D. Shashikumar said that the organisation has already directed its member institutions, which number more than 1,500 schools, to hold full day classes on Saturdays to compensate the loss of school hours.
“We have lost three and half working days due to BMTC/KSRTC strike and Karnataka bandh. To compensate this we have directed all our member institutions across the state to hold full day classes on all Saturdays of this month,” he said.
