Injured maid from Saudi gets Rs 10 lakh from TN CM
Chennai: Relief was writ large on the face of Dhakshayani of Tondiarpet, who had escaped from the house of her tormentor employer in Saudi Arabia by jumping from the balcony, when she received a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh from Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday.
The mother of two children aged eight and five, Dhakshayani received the sum of Rs 10 lakh which will be deposited in her name under the Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDCO) deposit scheme.
She would get a monthly assistance of Rs 8,125 from out of interest generated from the amount. Dhakshayani who was separated from her husband, left her mother’s house in Tondiarpet in March this year to work as a maid in Dammam in Saudi Arabia.
But hardly a few months later, she had to jump from the balcony of her employer’s house unable to put up with the torture she was subjected to at her employers’ hands.
She was admitted to the Stanley Government Hospital here last month after she reached the city with an injured spinal cord. She underwent a surgery. The Chief Minister had even directed the authorities to provide the best treatment for Dhakshayani and also asked Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, Social Welfare Minister V. Saroja, besides Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel to call on Dhakshayani and do the needful. Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to her and accordingly she handed over the sum.
