Telangana asked to submit DPRs of irrigation projects to KRMB

Krishna River Management Board says Telangana failed to comply with earlier fiat

Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Thursday asked the Telangana government to furnish the detailed project reports (DPRs) of new projects that require clearance from KRMB and the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the sanction of the apex council consisting of Union minister for Jal Shakti and the chief ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

These projects include the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, Bhaktha Ramadas Lift Irrigation Scheme, Water Grid Project taken up under Mission Bhagiratha, Thummilla Lift Irrigation Scheme, enhancing the scope of the Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthi Lift Irrigation Scheme (MGKLIS), the Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Scheme and Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC).

On May 19, 2020, the board had written to the principal secretary (irrigation) of Telangana following a complaint from his Andhra Pradesh counterpart alleging that the Telangana government was going ahead with irrigation projects including Palamuru-Rangareddy, Dindi and Bhaktha Ramadas Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Water Grid Project taken up under Mission Bhagiratha and Thummilla Lift Irrigation Scheme.

On May 30, in another letter, KRMB directed the Telangana government not to go ahead with new projects till they are appraised by it and the CWC and sanctioned by the apex council.

On June 4 the board held its 12th meeting where it decided that the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments must submit their respective DPRs within a week.

In the latest letter addressed to the principal secretary (irrigation), KRMB member Harikesh Meena asked for copies of the DPRs and project details of schemes taken up by the government of Telangana.

He pointed out that though the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had stated in the 12th meeting of the Board that the DPRs would be given, it did not happen.
