Hyderabad: Women sent to jail for 3 yrs for fraud

After investigation, the case was chargesheeted before the Second Metropolitan Magistrate Court at LB Nagar.

Hyderabad: A woman who was arrested for cheating 26 women by collecting money on the pretext of providing houses under a scheme of the Centre was convicted on Tuesday and sentenced to three years in jail. Second Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge G. Kavitha Devi also levied a penalty of `10,000 on K. Kalpana, 45.

In 2013, the LB Nagar police arrested Kalpana, a resident of Srinivasnagar Colony, for cheating 26 women who were running a self-help group after assuring them that she would assist them in getting a house under a Union government scheme. She collected a total of `7.5 lakh from the victims and failed to keep the promise.

After investigation, the case was chargesheeted before the Second Metropolitan Magistrate Court at LB Nagar.

After conducting trial, JJudge Kavitha Devi gave judgement on Tuesday convicting Kalpana of the offence and directed her to undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
