Bengaluru: Woman jumps off flat with son, hubby held
BENGALURU: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 29-year-old woman allegedly jumped to her death along with her two-year-old son from the seventh floor of a posh apartment in RT Nagar on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Bhavana, took the extreme step following alleged dowry harassment from her husband Arihant, an employee at an advertising company.
The incident took place at the apartment, White House, in RT Nagar on Tuesday evening. According to the police, Bhavana jumped off the balcony of her flat on the seventh floor along with her son Devanth.
While Devanth died on the spot, Bhavana was rushed to Baptist Hospital where she died of her injuries. Following the incident, Bhavana's parents accused Arihant of torturing her over dowry after which the police detained Arihant for questioning.
Arihant and Bhavana married four years ago. While Arihant worked at a private advertising company, Bhavana who was studying Chartered Accountancy (CA) discontinued her studies to look after Devanth.
The couple along with Arihant's parents and brothers was staying on the seventh floor of the apartment. The husband and wife fought frequently as Arihant doubted her fidelity and also kept harassing her for dowry. Unable to bear the harassment, Bhavana decided to take the extreme step around 5 pm on Tuesday, the police said.
It is learnt that the couple had picked up a fight over the same issue on Tuesday afternoon and Arihant was said to have used abusive language against Bhavana. After the fight, Bhavana took Devanth and locked the bedroom. After sometime, she jumped off the balcony along with their son.
The neighbours who saw the bodies in a pool of blood immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot. The RT Nagar police have registered a case and are investigati
