Hyderabad: Only five per cent of the pharmacy seats have been taken in the TS Engineering Common Entrance Test for 2018-2019. As many as 972 out of the 1,032 available are vacant.
Experts said many pharmacy students ended up doing small jobs rather than going for higher education. There were protests by pharmacy students earlier in Warangal demanding jobs from the government, said sources.
Ms Geeta Parasa, a pharmacy student told this newspaper, “There are no suitable jobs for those who pursue higher education in pharmacy courses. Even if we get some jobs, they are underpaid.”
Mr Ramdas, president, Telangana Pharmacy Colleges Associations, told this newspaper that, “As the Centre has tightened laws covering recruitment in medical shops, people with diplomas are getting placed easily. Diploma students take up jobs and do not prefer to go for higher education.”
