Bhopal: A “superstitious” youth in a Chhattisgarh town vandalised a “Shiv Linga” in the local temple to make Lord Shiva to appear from earth. The weird incident that took place in the Jaleswarh temple in Dongaria in Kawardha district in the intervening night of June 27-28 had stoked communal passion in the area forcing police to act swiftly to bring the situation under control.

The youth who had earlier served as a priest in two other temples, damaged the “Shiv Linga”, believed by the local devotees as a natural ‘Linga’ for having emerged from earth and growing in size over the years, with the belief that Lord Shiva would appear from ground.
