Smart township proposed between Adoni, Yemmiganur

KURNOOL: The AP government has proposed the development of the Jagananna Smart Township between Yemmiganur and Adoni towns, anticipating their merger in the future.

Currently, the two towns are separated by a distance of 30km but this can get reduced once some of the road projects are implemented.

The urban areas of Yemmiganur and Adoni lack proper facilities. The house-plot prices exceed Rs 5 lakh per cent, making it difficult for the ordinary people to own homes. Worse, many individuals have put their money unwittingly into illegal layouts and unauthorized housing projects.

Kotla Harshavardhan Reddy, chairman of the Kurnool urban development authority, said the state government plans to offer plots at a reduced price of Rs 3 lakh per cent of land, much below the market value, along with necessary amenities. This would help the middle-class families to own homes through the Jagananna Smart Township plan.

The proposed township will be located 5km away from Yemmiganur and 20km from Adoni town. The proposed Adoni Medical College and multi-specialty hospital would be coming up within a 10km radius.

Yemmiganur town will also feature a 100-bed hospital, providing access to education and medical care.

Commissioner of Kurnool municipal corporation and vice-chairman of Kurnool urban development authority, Bhargav Teja, said infrastructure development for the Jagananna Smart Township would cost around Rs 60 crore. Covering an area of 110 acres, the township would comprise 1,140 plots with roads, drinking water facilities, underground drainage and parks. government employees would have the opportunity to purchase plots at a 20 per cent discount.

The initiative is expected to provide affordable housing with basic amenities to the residents near the national highway. While the revenue issues have previously posed challenges, Adoni sub collector Abhishek said the Jagananna Smart Township concept will address this matter.
