TTD plans Kalyanamastu in every district headquarters in AP
TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced to conduct its mass marriage program ‘Kalyanamastu,' at all district headquarters of Andhra Pradesh on August 7.
This the first mega event for TTD, the biggest temple administration, in the Chandramana Subhakrut Nama Samvatsara. The mass marriage program will be held on August 7 between 8.07 am to 8.17 am, when the Anuradha star is in vogue during Sravana masam.
Speaking to reporters on Friday morning in front of Srivari temple, TTD trust Chairman Mr Y.V. Subba Reddy said, the Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to relaunch the Kalyanamastu programme that was stopped after the sad demise of former AP CM Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
“The objective of mass marriages programme was to reduce the financial burden of their children on parents of weaker sections. The eligible grooms and brides should register their names at the offices of the concerned district collector, RDO or Tahsildar,” he said, while adding that if the other state governments also come forward, the TTD is ready to conduct such free weddings.
TTD Executive Officer Dharma Reddy has directed the officials concerned to commence the process for accepting applications and their registration. At least three hundred prospective brides and grooms are expected to tie the nuptials in every district. Each couple will get a gold ‘Mangalasutram’ weighing 2 grams, a silk vastram, silver foot rings (Mettelu), a set of books under ‘Pustaka Prasadam’, laminated portrait of Goddess Padmavati and Lord Venkateswara.
