Major effort to control forest fires

Serious efforts are needed to manage and control grazing and forest fires.

Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh state biodiversity board chairman S.L.B. Misra said that Major efforts were needed to control forest fires and to sustain biodiversity in the Eastern Ghats.

Participating as chief guest at the three-day national media workshop organized by M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and National Biodiversity Board (NBA) here on Saturday on Biodiversity Conservation for Climate Change Adaptation, Mr Misra said that conserving local biodiversity can go a long way in regenerating forests. Serious efforts are needed to manage and control grazing and forest fires. He said that climate change and biodiversity are closely interlinked and vital for ensuring conservation and for better adaptation. Enhanced adaptation means less mitigation efforts. “Thus it is necessary that biodiversity conservation me-assures go hand in hand with climate change adaptation actions,’’ he said.

Reiterating the need to mainstream biodiversity as part of the development, he said media should play a major role in delivering the message to both policy makers and to the people.
