Thottathil Raveendran seeks to revoke corporation secretary Mrunmai Joshi's transfer

The decision to transfer her was taken by the cabinet on April 26.

Kozhikode: Mayor Thottathil Raveendran has urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to revoke the transfer order issued to corporation secretary Mrunmai Joshi posting her as Thalassery sub-collector. The Opposition had alleged that the secretary was transferred because she had taken strong action against the corporation staff who were involved in tampering with the street light contract signed by the civic body with a private firm.

Following the mayor’s demand, the cabinet meeting on Wednesday may review the transfer issue, it is learnt. The decision to transfer her was taken by the cabinet on April 26. She was appointed as secretary in December last year. The mayor said that he had apprised the chief minister about the benefits of having an IAS officer in the civic body. “We got the present secretary after repeatedly asking the state government for an IAS officer. Though Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi corporations get IAS officers as secretaries, Kozhikode did not have one for the last four decades.

The officer had brought more professionalism to the service and secured a firm grip over the corporation staff,” he said. “We hope that the cabinet meeting on Wednesday would revoke the transfer order,” he added. Meanwhile, Ms. Mrunmai Joshi, who hails from Pune, said that she had not yet received any official intimation on the transfer. At present, she is attending a training programme in Ahmedabad.
