Kerala to file plea in Supreme Court on ex-SPC T P Senkumar

The SC had only considered removal of Mr Senkumar and hence the order did not affect other postings, said sources.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government has decided to file a clarification petition in the Supreme Court on its order to reinstate Mr T.P. Senkumar as the state police chief. The SC on April 25 quashed the government order of June 1, 2016 removing Mr Senkumar as state police chief. Apart from posting Mr Loknath Behera as state police chief, the same order contained the posting of Jacob Thomas as Vigilance Director, replacing Mr Shanker Reddy. Mr Reddy's posting as State Crime Records Bureau director was also part of the same order.

Citing these, the government would approach the apex court, most likely on Wednesday, seeking a clarification whether its order would affect other postings also. Legal sources said it was a clear attempt to delay the execution of the SC order and hence might even attract court's strictures. The SC had only considered removal of Mr Senkumar and hence the order did not affect other postings, said sources. Also both advocate general C P Sudhakara Prasad and Law Secretary B G Harindranath had advised the Government there was no option but to comply with the apex court order. The contempt petition filed by Mr. Senkumar against Chief Secretary Nalini Netto would be considered by the government on Friday.
