Kerala: LPG truck drivers call off agitation

Cleaners will get Rs 495, Rs 526 and Rs 560 respectively over the three years.

Thiruvananthapuram: LPG truck drivers and cleaners decided to withdraw the indefinite strike announced from Tuesday after a wage agreement, agreed at the meeting convened by additional labour commissioner with owners and trade unions on May Day. As per the agreement, the transport contractors will pay Rs 950 in the first year; Rs 1,010 in the second, and Rs 1,075 in the third year to their drivers for local trips up to 200 km.

For every km above 200 km, the drivers will get Rs 4.75, Rs 5, and Rs 5.50 in the first, second and third year respectively. Drivers of Torus lorries will be paid Rs 1,280 in the first year, Rs 1,360 in the second year and Rs 1,450 in the third year. For every km above 200 km, Torus drivers will get Rs 5.55, Rs 5, and Rs 5.85 = and Rs 6.43 in the first, second and third year respectively. Cleaners will get Rs 495, Rs 526 and Rs 560 respectively over the three years. Cleaners of Torus will be paid Rs 580 in the first year, Rs 616 in the second year and Rs 565 in the third year.

Drivers who take 12 loads from the bottling plant will be given Rs 750, those taking 13 to 18 loads Rs 1250 and over 19 loads Rs 1750 as monthly incentives. For working on holidays and public holidays, drivers will be given Rs 300 per trip and for cleaners Rs 150. The agreement is for three years, and the arrears from January to April will be paid along with the salaries of May and June as two instalments.
