Collector MG Rajamanickam bans summer classes till May 22

However, professional colleges and scheduled exams will go on as scheduled.

KOCHI: District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam on Monday ordered schools in the district including those following State, CBSE and ICSE syllabus not to conduct summer classes or special classes till May 22 due to the acute heat conditions prevailing in the district. However, professional colleges and scheduled exams will go on as scheduled.

The order has been issued under Section 144 (1) of CrPC 1973 and Section 33 and 34 of Disaster Management Act 2005. The District Collector who is also the District Magistrate warned that the heads of those educational institutions who violate the order will be arrested and will face legal proceedings. Public have been asked to inform the District Collector about anyone violating the order.

The District Collector said that the heat situation will be reviewed on a daily basis in consultation with State Disaster Management Authority and an appropriate
decision on the current ban shall be taken from time to time. He also said that the order is issued since a warning has been released by the Meteorological Department that heat wave conditions are likely in isolated places of the state and the public are advised to be careful while venturing out between 11 am and 3 pm.

At a time when 10 persons have died from sun stroke in different parts of the state and cattle too is succumbing to the heat, it is threat to life to conduct summer classes for the children in schools in such a disastrous situation, the District Collector said.
