Kozhikode in grip of water scarcity
Kozhikode: The city dwellers are in the grip of drinking water shortage and the corporation office is finding it difficult to cope with the rising demand for water. The project to install water kiosks at places facing shortage has reached nowhere, say the residents.
They have appealed to the mayor to take immediate steps to solve the shortage in areas like Thiruvannur, Chelannur, Mayanar, Vengali and Elathur which are the worst-hit. Earlier, the corporation council had asked the revenue department to ensure water supply to such areas, but the crisis still persists.
"Water is supplied only once in a week these days aggravating the situation in the extreme heat," said Rajan Nambiar, a resident near Mankavu.
Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the corporation had asked the revenue department to take speedy action to resolve the matter. "We will supply water to the affected areas at the earliest," he added.
