Cellphone charging kiosks at BMTC bus-stops soon

Another officer said that there have been requests for charging points in long distances buses.

Bengaluru: If you are running out of charge on the mobile phone, then don't worry. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will soon install mobile phone charging kiosks at major bus stations across the city.

"We received numerous requests asking us to install mobile phone charging kiosks, like at airports. We decided that it is the need of the hour, as almost everyone carries a mobile phone but not all carry a mobile phone backup," a senior BMTC officer said.

In the first phase, the BMTC will set up such kiosks at Majestic, Yeshwanthapura, Shivajinagar, Shanthi Nagar, Whitfield, Banashankari, Vijyanagar and Domlur, as these stations see a high volume of passengers, he said. "Gradually, we will try to install kiosks at other major bus stands. Tenders have been floated and will be maintained by a private company. Any individual can charge his or her mobile phone free of cost," the officer said.

Another officer said that there have been requests for charging points in long distances buses. "We had charging points in a few buses, but passengers ended up damaging them. They were also difficult to maintain. We will discuss it with senior officers and take a decision on installing charging points in all buses," the officer said.
