Vandalism case doesn't merit lie test, says Kerala

The submission was made on a plea filed by Latheesh seeking a directive to conduct polygraph test on him.

Kochi: The state government has submitted before Kerala high court that there was no need to subject Latheesh B. Chandran, the first accused, or any other accused involved in the destruction of Krishna Pillai statue case, to a lie detector test.

The crime branch of police probing the case submitted a report stating that Mr Chandran and Sabu had expressed their willingness to undergo a polygraph test, but later on, they had withdrawn their consent before Alappuzha judicial first class magistrate court.

The submission was made on a plea filed by Latheesh B. Chandran seeking a directive to conduct polygraph test on him. According to police, a polygraph test or any other scientific test is the prerogative of the investigating officer. The accused cannot dictate terms and direct the cops how the investigation should be conducted.

The final report of the case is not filed for want of forensic science lab report and certificates from the nodal officers of mobile companies. The petition was lodged by Latheesh B. Chandranwith intent to postpone the final report and to ensure that no charge is framed against him at least within a period of two months.
