Preethi case: Police get custody of accused Saif

HYDERABAD: A district court on Thursday granted four days police custody of Dr Mohammed Saif, named in the suicide death of Dr Daravath Preethi last week.

The Mattewada police had filed a petition seeking Dr Saif’s custody to questioning him in the case. Following the court orders, DR Saif was shifted from Khammam jail to Hanamkonda. His bail petition is pending in the court.

Meanwhile, Vamshi Prudhvi, brother of Dr Preethi, in a video alleged that there were many mistakes in the remand report of Dr Saif. He alleged that the Kakatiya Medical College head of department Dr K. Nagarjuna Reddy was the main culprit. “How can the college include him in the anti-ragging committee, when he is openly supporting Saif,” Prudhvi asked.

He accused the police are trying to protect someone. When Dr Saif instructed some his fellow seniors to allot duties to Dr Preethi without giving her any rest, why have the police not taken action against them, he asked. How did police officials see messages on Preethi’s phone when he (Prudhvi) did not find any, Prudhvi asked.

He said that his family members noticed a cut mark on her hand and suspected that doctors might have performed some surgery. The doctors in the name of dialysis had replaced Dr Preethi’s blood to remove any evidence of wrongdoing.

What is the evidence the police have to confirm that his sister had attempted suicide; why were doctors not detailing the treatment they had given to save Preethi, Prudhvi asked.
