Chennai: More than 20 per cent of the women are ready to spend up to Rs 20 lakh on their wedding, according to the findings of a survey by Matrimony.com.

In tune with the prevailing tradition of wedding expenses being heavier on the bride’s side, 20.6 percent of females indicated they were going to spend '10 to 20 lakh while it was 11.2 percent of males for the same spending bracket.

The Big Fat Indian Wedding Market survey 2018 was taken to ascertain the how the young Indians look at planning their own wedding and 9,246 people all over India had participated online.

The year’s biggest trend: Destination weddings continue to be big. 29 per cent of respondents from the North preferred a destination wedding, for South it was 24 per cent, West 25 per cent and East 22.8 per cent. Looks like wedding photograph-ers would continue to make bucks for years to come. In all, 27.08 percent females indicated that they were likely to spend between '50,000 and 1 lakh, while 25.84 percent of the men indicated the same.

For the wedding clothes, a whopping 40.67 per cent of the females said they would spend between '50,000 to 1 lakh.

Coming to the most important component - food, 31.84 percent of females indicated that they were planning to spend between '2 and 5 lakh, while 7.87 per cent said they would spend more than '5 lakh. It was 27.62 per cent and 6.90 percent for males respectively.

Region wise, North and South topped the spending pattern. When asked about their favourite honeymoon destination, Indians across gender indicated Goa, Kerala, Shimla and Manali as the preferred destinations within India. And Switzerland, Maldives and Singapore as their preferred international honeymoon destinations.
