Bandi writes to LS Speaker; seeks action against cops

Sanjay Kumar is currently undergoing a 14-day judicial custody following a police case against him

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar dashed off a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker seeking action against the Karimnagar commissioner of police for breach of his rights and privileges as a Member of Parliament. Sanjay Kumar is currently undergoing a 14-day judicial custody following a police case against him for holding Jagaran Deeksha flouting the norms of Disaster Management Act on Monday.

Sanjay said his rights and privileges as a Member of Parliament had been infringed and urged the Speaker to take action against Satyanarayana, commissioner of police, Karimnagar, Srinivasa Rao, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Karimnagar, Prakash, ACP Jagityal and Lakshmi Babu and inspector of Karimnagar police station. He complained about these police officials who lifted him forcefully and threw him inside the police vehicle and took him to Manakondur police station, where he was illegally confined.

In his letter, he narrated the ordeal when Satyanarayana came to his office along with a large number of police personnel at about 7:30 pm on Monday. “The commissioner of police along with an inspector and a few more officials tried to forcefully enter my office as the office was locked from inside. They bought gas cutters to cut the iron grills and the police made forced entry and barged upon me, pulled me by grabbing my shirt while I was resisting the police commissioner who personally caught hold of my collar and tried to pull me. Meanwhile some of my party workers tried to release me from the clutches of the police,” Sanjay Kumar said. He said he was also abused and threatened by the police commissioner personally and the police misbehaved with him.
