Kerala: Hi School Kuttikootam' to form network of IT clubs

The registration to the club will begin on Tuesday and the first phase of training will be completed before March 31.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The IT@School is launching ‘Hi School Kuttikootam,’ a project to form a network of students’ IT clubs with the support of organisations like Google. IT@School executive director K. Anvar Sadath said that at least one lakh students would be enrolled in the club this academic year itself. The number would be increased to two lakh by next year. It would be one of the largest IT networks of students in the country and would be implemented on the lines of the Student Police Cadet programme.

High school students can join the clubs and each school should enrol a minimum of 20 students. The maximum number from a school is restricted to 12 percent of the total strength. The activities of the club would be carried out without affecting regular classes. The students will be given training mainly in five areas - animation and multimedia, hardware, electronics, language computing and internet and cyber safety. Organisations like Google, Start-up Mission and Swathantra Malayalam have offered support to the initiative. The support of the centre would be sought mainly for providing hardware tools to the clubs, Mr. Sadath said in a statement.

Education Minister C. Raveendranath said that the clubs would be strengthened further by bringing them under the general education protection mission. The registration to the club will begin on Tuesday and the first phase of training will be completed before March 31.
