Bengaluru: Pandit Prasanna Gudi broke his own record by singing continuously for 29 hours and 43 minutes in the city over this New Year's weekend at Swaramahayaga, the one-of-its-kind musical concert organised by him.

His earlier record, set in 2008, was that of singing continuously for 26 hours and 12 minutes. The live music concert, which started on December 30 at 10 am, lasted till 5 pm on December 31, 2016. Due to health problems, Pt Gudi could not complete the original record that he had planned for, which was a 48-hour-long vocal performance.

The event at Elan Convention Centre was dedicated to Gudi's late father Pandit Madhava Gudi and renowned Indian classical artist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. It was inaugurated by renowned actor and director Shivaram.

Sharing his thoughts after the concert, Pt Gudi said, "Though I am disappointed that I was unable to complete the 48 hours of singing as planned, because of my health, I am proud that I was able to break my earlier record of 26 hours 12 minutes. I am thankful to all my supporters and family for helping me achieve this dream. My aim will always be to bring classical music to the forefront and I will keep working toward making this possible."
