Indian Army to Host 52nd Vijay Diwas Celebration with Bangladeshi Delegation

Kolkata:A delegation of 30 Mukti Joddhas from Bangladesh will attend the 52nd Vijay Diwas celebration to be hosted by the Indian Army on December 15-16 in the city to mark it's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Liberation War.

The Bangladeshi delegation will be accompanied by six serving military officers of their country, said Major General (General Staff) of the Eastern Command M.P. Singh at Fort William on Saturday.

He elaborated, “From our side, war veterans, who participated in that war, will also attend the celebration. India and Bangladesh not only share a common ancient history and culture but in contemporary times also maintain an excellent bilateral relation which are built on the foundation of strong people-to-people contact and mutual respect for each other.”

Maj Gen Singh added, “Our defence forces also share a cordial relationship which over the years has seen an increase in the number of joint exercises and training. India and Bangladesh maintain a special relationship and such military interactions go a long way in cementing our cooperation.”

Bangladesh deputy high commissioner in Kolkata Andalib Elias, also present at the curtain raiser, said, “The relationship between Bangladesh and India is simply built on blood and sweat. We are grateful to the political leadership of India and armed forces for our liberation.”
