Hyderabad\'s IT corridor to soon have women and child friendly police station

Hyderabad: The IT corridor at Gachibowli will soon have a child and women friendly police station, with renovation of the place, located within the Gachibowli police station premises, nearing completion. The idea was to make the place approachable for aggrieved women and safe and friendly for children.

The Women Police Station (WPS) will get a colourful indoor play area with toys and rocking chairs for children, apart from counselling rooms and breastfeeding chamber for women with infants. DCP Madhapur K. Shilpavalli said that the reworking of the WPS was a brainchild of Cyberabad police commissioner Stephen Raveendra.

"As the petitioners might be in stressed or in an agitated mood while sharing their ordeal, their children might be hard to control. The aim was to have play areas for the children," said the DCP, adding that it can be used by petitioners visiting the Gachibowli police station as well.

"The ambience of the place will be such that it will make both elders and children feel comfortable. Both the addressing of issues by the petitioners and their children and people accompanying them will have their spaces in the premises," the official said.

The outdoor play area, which has a pair of see-saws and a whirlpool among others, will also have seating arrangements for the adults. "The adults watching the kids play will have a place to sit, as the petitioner is sharing her plight," said the Women police inspector S. Sunitha.
