Hyderabad: Perturbed at the constant increase in monkey and wild boar menace across the state, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao asked the chief secretary Somesh Kumar to come up with a solution.

Towards this Kumar convened a high-level meeting with officials and later formed a committee.

Apart from officials from forest, agriculture, veterinary departments, even those with expertise in containing monkey and wild boar menace participated in the meeting.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr Praveen Rao, vice-chancellor of Agriculture University, said “the committee will map the population of these animals. As part of the new techniques that we have developed, it is pertinent to plant broad beans, field beans and bottle-gourd as boundary crops in fields. Monkeys are allergic to these crops, Moreover, by mimicking certain sounds such as gunfire shots after every 20  minutes will scare the monkeys away.”

”There are 150 tree species that are liked by monkeys. If they are planted in forest zones during Haritha Haram, monkeys will instinctively be attracted to those trees.”  The committee will come up with its report in a week and it will be discussed in the cabinet.

The meeting was attended by senior officials like R. Sobha, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Lokesh Kumar and M. Raghunandan Rao
