Kerala: Customs seizes 1.5 kg gold worth Rs 41 lakh

The gold was seized from Ubide, who belongs to Puthuppady in Malappuram district.

KOZHIKODE: Customs officials on Friday seized gold worth over Rs 40 lakhs Calicut International airport, Karipur, from a man who arrived here from Kuwait. The gold pieces, weighing 1.5 kg, were concealed inside the transformer of a microwave. The gold was seized from Ubide, who belongs to Puthuppady in Malappuram district. According to the Customs officials, they intercepted Ubide when he came out through the green channel to the exit gate of the customs.

As per the direction from Commissioner Sumit Kumar, along with the guidelines of additional commissioner P. Anil Kumar, assistant commissioners Davis T. Mannath and Beena R, superintendents C. Gokuldas, M. Praveen, Suresh Babu AP, inspectors K Muralidharan, V Rajeev, P Sachithran, K. Bindu and Veena Dharmaraj and AP George, Lilly Thomas effected the seizure. Investigation is in progress, Customs officials said.
