Malappuram: The Malappuram Municipality has decided to ban begging and vending at households from January after increasing cases of burglary. “This is being implemented with the help of police and district administration," vice-chairperson Perumpally Said said. "Ward level awareness campaign would be launched in the first phase to educate the public on how to deal with strangers.”
In the municipal council, IUML member K.K. Musthafa moved the resolution, which was adopted unanimously. “The area has witnessed many cases of burglary and damaging properties by strangers mostly from other states. Municipality has also received many complaints regarding this menace,” he said. The municipality will also put up up warnings in English, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam at selected spots.
