Kozhikode Corporation may rope in Bangalore NGO

Once the project is implemented, one can upload documents online and also download the certificates issued by the Corporation.

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation may tie-up with Bangalore-based ‘E-governments Foundation,’ an NGO working in the field of helping local self- governments achieve technology enablement to implement a paperless office. The City Consultative Committee members working on the implementation of e-governance in the Corporation administration met the NGO in Bangalore and held primary-level talks.

It was during the early months of 2016 that the Corporation decided to implement e-governance using free software, taking a cue from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and similar civic bodies where the system has been successfully implemented. Once the project is implemented, one can upload documents online and also download the certificates issued by the Corporation.

The E-governments Foundation, working in the field for the last 13 years, has big clients like New Delhi, Nagpur and Chennai Corporations and municipal administration departments of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. “We had a primary level meeting with them and after preparing a detailed project report, we will submit it to the state government before implementing,” said Consultative Committee members and Regional Town Planner K V Abdul Malik.

Recently, Minister for Local Administration KT Jaleel also announced that the government would introduce new software for accepting applications for construction of buildings on a pilot basis in Kozhikode. “We have to do a lot of ground work ahead of the implementation including imparting training to the office staff,” added Deputy Mayor Meera Darsak.
