Class VI Student Commits Suicide Over Rs 2

Anantapur: A Class VI student committed suicide at his residence in Kariganipalli village of Kundurpi mandal in Anantapur district on Wednesday after his mother reportedly refused to give him ₹2 for purchasing eatables at his school.

Police said Bommalinga was a student of the government school in his village. He had got habituated to collect ₹2 from his mother every day while going to school and buy something to eat near the school premises.

On Wednesday, Bommalinga asked his mother Jayamma for ₹2. But she had been working in the field. She asked him to take ₹10 kept beneath her sari. But the boy misunderstood this as his mother’s refusal in giving him ₹2 and committed suicide.

Jayamma and her husband Eeranna found Bommalinga unconscious when they reached home. They shifted the boy to Kalyanadurgam hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Jayamma broke into tears in front of her relatives saying Bommalinga had been her only son whom she never hurt. “He asked for ₹2. I asked him to take ₹10. But he took his own life for no reason,” she wailed.

Police handed over Bommalinga’s body to his parents after conducting a post-mortem at the Kalyanadurgam hospital.
